Saving elephants from widespread poaching and habitat loss requires insight as to how many are left, where they are located, and when they are on the move. To answer these questions, Vulcan Inc. funded development of lightweight, miniature monitoring devices that stream data about the migration and behavior patterns of Africa’s endangered elephants.
Duet helped launch this innovative conservation effort with a multi-media presentation, A Fitbit for Elephants, which debuted at the South by Southwest Eco conference. With poignant video, graphics, and scripted remarks, we showed how big data and micro-technology can protect wildlife and the environment. These materials are still in circulation for international awareness and fundraising campaigns.
